Agar Medium

To make the agar medium I will need some ingredients and perhaps a presure cooker. I will also need a small scale or balance for measuring.

I need the following ingredients:

agar
light malt powder
nutrituional yeast powder
grain flour

Finding Petri Dishes

Shawn at work just gave me a package to 20 petri dishes. My petri dish problem is solved. Now to get the agar and other ingredents.

This might be a better mushroom for me to grow than the oyster.

This is a description of it at Kaw Valley Mycological Society.

These are not suppose to taste as good as the normal oster mushrooms. However, they are suppose to have some health benefits in the form of immune-enhancing, cancer-protective properties. It is also suppose to help with inflammation when applied external to the skin.

You can get these from Fungi Perfect and from Shaman Shop (who gets it from Fungi Perfect). Cost about $20.

Burrettes another Name for Measuring Pipettes

Found burrettes at the American Science Surplus site, which look just like measuring pipette to me.

Spent Film Canester for Test Tube

What about using a spent film canester for a test tube. I might have some of those lying around.

I have come to realize that I don't need a test tube. Anything that is small would work, like a salt shaker.

Still looking for a local source for a test tube. Would also be nice to find a local source for petri dishes.

What size do I need? Enough to have room for 5 mls of peroxide and a piece of mushroom of banana. I would think that 10 mls would work.

I wonder if I might have an old test tube around somewhere in the garage?

I am reading "Growing Mushrooms the Easy Way" by R. Rush Wayne, Ph. D.

It is not quite what I had hoped for. The book is really small. Some of the information is already on the web site. It is a little general. I would like a lot more diagrams and some more detailed explanation of this so that I could understand.

I would like to get started, but need a lot of things.

Found the Mushroom Grower's Newletter. It is hard to see what is currently going on. There archives only come to 2004 and have no content. If would be nice see some table of contents for something more recent. It cost $35 a year to join.

However, there is a mushroom farm index.

The Mushroom Cultivator

This is suppose to the book or raising mushrooms. Fungi Prefect LLC is selling it for only $19.95.

I just checked and amazon has the book for $22.02 with free shipping.

I doubt if Fungi Perfect has free shiping. I just check and it is a $10 shipping charge.

I guess if I get the book if will be from Amazon. I will wait till my email book arrives first. I may need to be buying supplices first.

500 gallon tank with 3 to 5 inches would be 18 to 7 fish.

Clean Up Current Pond

Perhaps my real next project could be to clean up the current pond and get it running.

I could buy a $5 Koi and see how it goes.

I was hoping to buy the pump and get that going, but now I am wondering if I need to have a fence up first?

This kids have been a real problem in my neighborhood.

It is $1.29 for each six inches of panneling or $30 for an 8 foot section from Home Depot. It is also $8 for each post, so it is about $40 per 8 foot section or $5 a foot. The gate is wood plus $30.

Filling Tank with Water

I have started filling the tank with water.

It rain yesterday and I was able to start the process.

I also have been looking at the current fish pond. I need to clean it out. The pump is not working, but perhaps I could put just one small Koi in it.

I would like to take some of the plant that are growing in the pond and put them in my tank.

Perhaps I could sell some of the plants along with the Koi.
